Welcome back, everyone, to the fifth edition of the Twelfth Man blog! This week I sat down with my very good friend and roommate Christian Castro, and we talked about everything sports. I have known Christian for two to three years now, and we have been very good friends ever since. Since he was young, Christian has been a traveling man, living in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Switzerland and eventually ending up in Georgia. The European culture has always been something that has fascinated both of us, but that is where Christian has gotten to know and love the game of soccer as he does today. Christian Castro has been a sports fanatic throughout his life, so that set up for some good conversations in this week’s edition of the Twelfth Man Podcast.

“Futból or American soccer, however, you want to call it,” is a sport that we both know and love, European soccer especially. Growing up as an FC Barcelona and a Manchester United fan, European soccer has been one of my interests for a very long time. Living in Europe throughout elementary school, Castro grew to Borussia Dortmund’s liking and was one of the topics that we covered. Comparing the European leagues like La Liga, the Champions League and the Bundesliga to the so-called “retirement league” of the MLS really raised a couple of questions. Growing up watching talents such as Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski and trying not to take these once-in-a-generation talents for granted is something that I brought up in this week’s edition of the Twelfth Man. Realizing that they are on the tail end of their careers and reminiscing on the change that the soccer world could endure in a couple of years is something we all have to consider.

Another segment that we brought up was that MLB Spring Training has just gotten underway. As both of us are also huge baseball fans and our favorite teams are also rivals as Christian Castro likes the Atlanta Braves, and I like the Boston Red Sox, the upcoming 2021 season is shaping up to be a learning experience. With the near-complete rebuild that the Red Sox did during the offseason and the near World Series berth by the Braves last year, this Spring Training is shaping up to be an interesting one for many reasons. We discussed this and our expectations for the 2021 regular season as some other topics all in this week’s edition of the Twelfth Man Podcast. Make sure you tune in to find out our takes on some of the recent topics around the sports world.

Here is a question for you. Who do you think has the best chance to make the 2021 World Series and why?

L.A. Dodgers and the New York Yankees .... MONEY, that is why. They have spent a lot and can still spend more.
